South Island & Canterbury champs day 1 - Long distance.  Acheron, near Lake Lyndon, Canterbury High Country.

Come and enjoy the enigma that is Acheron for one last time before it falls prey to the expanded wilding pine eradication programme, A classic PAPO map since the late 1990's, Acheron is an area with subtle glacial moraine contours tucked in the lee of Mt Barker, cloaked in a wilding pine forest of variable runability. This is a map that will test your ability to stay in touch with the map and be accurate with your compass as you look for the elusive mud pans and the continually "moving" group of boulders.

Although this is a championship event, there are courses suitable for all, with recreational courses at all levels in addition to the competitive and elite grades, See the South Island champs page for full list of grades.
