Canterbury Champs 2024

PAPO will be hosting the 2024 Canterbury Champs in the Geraldine area.
There will be 2 events events on the Craigmore and Kakahu maps. 

  • Saturday 9th March will be a Middle distance on the Craigmore map. 
  • Sunday 10th March will be a Long distance event on the Kakahu map.
Entries:

This event will be pre-entry only. Entries will be open in early Feb-2024.
Standard price entries close Mon 26th Feb.
Late entries close Mon 4th Mar.
All entries must be paid for using Credit Card payments in the entry system (EnterO).

Standard event fees

These are available to members of any orienteering club in the world.
These fees are available until Monday Mon 26th Feb.

SI hire: Regular SI cards $3 per race.

Late entries:

For entries on/after Tuesday 27th Feb, a 50% late entry surcharge is applied. Late entries will be allocated a start time at the beginning of the start list, prior to all standard entries.
Final date for entry is Monday 4th Mar, no entries will be accepted after this date.

All event fees are in NZ dollars and include GST.

Payments:

Payment is by credit card only. Credit card payments will be taken as part of the entry process. 

Refund Policy: 

  • Refund of 90% of fees paid for withdrawals prior to standard entry fee close date (Mon 26th Feb).
  • Refund of 75% of fees paid  for withdrawals after standard entry fee date and before late entry close date (Mon 4th Mar).
  • No refund after Late entry close date.
  • To notify withdrawal from a race, fill out <form tbc> prior to entries closing (Mon 4th Mar). 
  • Refunds will be processed after the event.

Grades are in 2-year bands up to age 18 and in 10-year bands for over 40s.

Recreational grades:

For those that want an easier navigational challenge or shorter course than the competitive grade.
Or for those going as a team or juniors being shadowed by parents.

If you have not run a red course before, we recommended you do not try your first red course at this event as the maps and courses are very technical. 
If you wish to change grade after entry but before final entries have closed, fill out <form tbc> prior to entries closing (Mon 4th Mar).
After this date, only changes to the recreational grades may be made in person at the event. 

Start times:

Start times for both the Middle and the Long Distance will be allocated and published prior to the events. Earliest start is 10.30am.
For start time requests (e.g. for parents sharing childcare duties), please fill out <form tbc> prior to entries closing (Mon 4th Mar).

Punching system

The SportIdent (SI) punching system will be used in all  events with Si Air+ enabled. Only regular SI cards will be available for hire: $3 per event.  

Group Accommodation

PAPO has booked Raincliff Youth Camp & Conference Centre (http://www.raincliff.freeservers.com) to provide group accommodation over this weekend. This is about half way between Geraldine and Fairlie. 

This is booked for Friday & Saturday night, providing a great opportunity for competitors to stay together and be social. There are bunks for 74 people, sites for campervans (wired power available) and space for tents. The cost is $40 per senior, $20 per junior for bunks, caravans or camping. The fee covers the whole weekend whether you stay Saturday only or Friday as well.
