Southern O-Week 2021

Southern O-Week 2021 replaces the Oceania carnival scheduled for Jan 2021. It will be held in the same week that was planned for Oceania and will feature a weekend of events in Marlborough at the start of the week and four days in Canterbury at the end of the week.

Camping, accommodation & food - Marlborough

Camping: For the Marlborough weekend, camping will be available at the Ward Domain. Camping is available from before the first event on Friday night (8th Jan, from 6pm) to Sunday night (11th Jan). Camping costs are $10 per person per night, families $20 per night, bookings available in the entry system. The money for camping is going to the Flaxbourne Settlers Assoc. 
Basic facilities - 4x toilets (maybe 6), covered enclosed large shed with power for shelter. No cooking facilities, water needs to be boiled, take own rubbish away. Please note that there is only one shower on site so please bring a solar-shower.   Access to the Ward Domain for the duration of the event shall be through the gate at the Ward Street/Tachall’s Road intersection at the SW corner
No dogs as livestock nearby.
Supplies: There are very limited supplies available in Ward. We recommend that you stock up with food, fuel etc beforehand and be prepared to be self-sufficient. Seddon has a small SuperValue supermarket and three cafes! Unfortunately there will be no Kai Kart at Ward.
Swimming: If you want to swim after the event there are a few options. Marfells Beach, Ward Beach and the Flaxbourne River is swimmable near the Ward Beach Reserve but water quality is not monitored. The Ward School pool is also available and a key will be in the care of a local person, a koha for each swim will be greatly appreciated or pay a lump sum to cover the weekend. The Seddon pool is open too.

Camping, accommodation & food - Canterbury

For the Canterbury long weekend, we recommend basing yourself at Spencer Beach Holiday Park (https://spencerbeachholidaypark.co.nz). This is the location for the Saturday evening sprint and long distance race on Sunday. PAPO has booked out the lodge at the holiday park for Thur-Sat nights, this has 6 bunk rooms sleeping 6 per room (https://spencerbeachholidaypark.co.nz/accommodation/lodge/). Bookings for bunks at the lodge at $20 per bunk per night are available in the entry system. If you prefer to camp, please book directly with the holiday park, let them know that you will be at the orienteering event and they will allocate a site near the lodge. There are also numerous cabin style accommodation options, book directly with Spencer Park.
For those wishing to camp on Banks peninsula, note that there is no camping available in Le Bons Bay for campervans or tents. If you'd like to camp on Banks Peninsula, there is camping available at Okains Bay (https://okainsbaycamp.co.nz/).
