- Event Type:
- Coaching and training practise
Coaching and practise is offered to all school-aged children at all levels from 4-5pm on various afternoons over the weeks leading up to the Canterbury schools orienteering festival. Navigation and map reading practise for beginners with hands-on training. There will be some teaching points and guiding of trainees on what to look for and what to remember for most of the sessions. Booking required for maps at least two days before the session (see the 'register your numbers' form link below), then just turn up with your running shoes and a compass.
Each training session will vary, it is run by volunteers and each will have something different to offer. There will be many different things to go over, so it will not have the same format every session. It may involve a walk around looking at features, a discussion at the start and sometimes a set course to run.
What do you need to bring? Wear comfortable shoes, bring a compass, and some small change for maps/ coaching costs. Bring your own Sport i-dent if you have one, otherwise we do lend them out for some training events (not all will use them) . A Sport i-dent is a microchip that you place on your finger to 'punch' the controls you reach on an orienteering course.
