Woodend OY. Coastal sand dune forest. Courses will have a mixture of established & regrowth pine forest, vegetated sand dunes, recently burned areas and an intricate track network.

A range of orienteering courses available, with something to suit everyone, from beginners to experts. It includes easy courses for those who are new to the sport and would like to give it a go. All welcome! Event suitable for the whole family.

Especially for the Red difficulty courses, the event has been planned as a middle-distance format with a greater emphasis on technical difficulty rather than route choice/endurance.

This event is part of the PAPO OY series, with OY points awarded to PAPO club members.

Final info:

Some messages from the organising team for the event at Woodend on Sunday.

At this stage we have over 150 people entered for Sunday's OY event at Woodend which is fantastic! There is a bit of rain in the forecast and so that we don't have people waiting in line for ages at the start getting cold and wet, we would like everyone to go to the Registration tent when they first arrive at the event centre and rip a start time off the sheets that will be there for each course based on 2 minute start intervals from 10:30 to 12:30. Then you will be able to time your warm-up based on the time you ripped off, and get to the start 200 m from the event centre without having to wait there for too long. Be aware that we have about 50 people entered in Medium Red so be prepared for a wait before your time comes up - bring a thermos of tea, book, sketch pad, frisbee, hacky-sack, or... device.

Please also bring some cash to buy some yummy baking that will be on offer as a fundraiser for Juniors travelling to orienteering events in NZ and overseas.

We are using the Livelox tracking software for this event, so scan the QR codes on your maps and upload your GPS data to compare your speed and route choice with your mates.
