Organised by University of Canterbury Orienteering Club (UCOC).

The 2021 Ultralong will return to the Craigieburn Forest Park, this year the Ultralong courses will start at Texas Flat on the Mt Cheeseman Rd and finish in Castle Hill village.
Start: Texas Flat
Finish: Castle Hill Village

This year because of the course design we are only offering the 4 elite grades at red level. There will be two open grades as well that anyone can enter which will be the exact same as the M20E and W20E courses if you do not want to enter the 21E grades. The W20E course will be a great chance to experience an Ultralong without running over 10km but be warned: the nav will be red level and the terrain is tough so make sure you come prepared for an adventure. There will also be an orange and yellow (these both start and finish in the Castle Hill village).

Entries open: https://forms.gle/h3S3vtwkFk5oQSLLA
Enter by:  31 August 2021

There is a PAPO OY event on the following day on the Castle Hill Village map. For PAPO club members the Sunday event will count towards OY points.

Terrain

The Hogs Back map is a subalpine area with a mixture of mature beech forest and open tussock. The elevation ranges from 700m to 1200m above sea level. Large flat areas are dissected by steep valleys and ridges. The beech forest offers a range of runnability, from open mature forest with running speeds < 4min/km to extremely thick areas of regrowth. There are some isolated areas of limestone rock detail.

Timetable

Start times will be from 11am till 1pm. Start times will be published closer to the event.

PAPO have booked the Cheeseman Forest Lodge and the Canterbury Environment Centre for the night of Saturday 5 Sep, providing a great opportunity for competitors to stay together and be social. These 2 facilities provide beds for 72 people and can be booked through the race entry form. The costs are $30 per senior, $20 per junior. Camping will be available, but only once the beds inside have been filled, at $10 each for both juniors and seniors.
