MTBO #1 Spencer park.

PAPO's first Mountain bike orienteering event of the year will be on the Bottle Lake map, starting form Spencer Park. There will be something to suit everyone, from beginners to experts. Includes easy courses for those who are new to the sport and would like to give it a go. All welcome! Event suitable for the whole family.

There will be a small number of MTBO map boards available for hire at $5 each, ask at registration.

The event will use orienteering courses (i.e. it will not be rogaine format). With MTBO nationals coming up in April in Otago, the courses have been set to provide good training for the style of courses at nationals. Three courses will be available:

  • Long Distance: 18km. A3 map at 1:15,000 covering the whole of Bottle Lake forest.
  • Sprint Distance: 7km. A4 map at 1:6,000 of the network of tracks close to Spencer Park. A rare opportunity to practice sprint MTBO.
  • Easy sprint: 4km. Short course with easy navigation, suitable for families and those new to MTBO.

As we expect that those heading to MTBO nationals may want to ride both the long distance and sprint, the timings for each have been set to cater for this. If you want to do this, come early and ride the long distance first.
